PACK OF LIES
a play by Hugh Whitemore
SeeSaw Productions have a treat in store for their audiences. It’s a topical subject. Stories of spies continue to emerge. Seemingly ordinary citizens are revealed as working covertly for foreign governments and their friends and neighbours are amazed. How is the deception maintained? What happens to loyalties? The name of the play is the answer as it’s all a PACK OF LIES.
In 1961 Peter and Helen Kroger two Americans living in Ruislip were convicted of spying for the Russians and sentenced to twenty years imprisonment. From these true facts, Hugh Whitemore has written a powerfully moving fictional account of the events leading up to their arrest with the action centred on the totally unsuspecting Jackson household…….
“By a consistent tone of dry understatement, Mr Whitemore adroitly blends suburban domesticity with high level intrigue in this quiet compelling documentary thriller.” The Standard
“ …intriguing and ingenious play …” Daily Mail
“Mr Whitemore has put together an insinuating piece which hardly raises its voice but succeeds in portraying the pain of betrayal” The Financial Times
