Best Actress Award at the 2007 One Act Festival went to Helen Wright.
The idea of The Tenby Players was conceived by members of the
drama section of the Tenby Arts Club. It was born at a public meting
held in April 1952. The Tenby-born actor, Kenneth Griffith, then
appearing at the Old Vic, became the first President.
The Players’ first production was ‘Debut’, three one-act plays staged in June 1953 in the ‘Little Theatre’ in Warren. Street, Tenby. Due to
changing times, and with the full co-operation of the then Town
Council, the Players moved to the De Valence Pavilion, their ‘home’ to
this day.
Tenby Players won the Pembrokeshire Drama
Association One Act Play Festival in 2001 with their production of ‘The Appraisal.’, written and directed by Players’ member David Owen. Unfortunately everything that year then came to a grinding
halt because of the foot and mouth outbreak across Wales.
In 2002 many founder members, friends and distinguished guests gathered together to celebrate the Players’ 50th birthday. From its creation to the present day the group has staged over a hundred productions, as well as taking plays to other communities, appearing in many Pembrokeshire Festivals, and performing ‘Street Theatre’
during Tenby summer months for various local charities.
In 2005, Tenby Players again won the One Act Festivel with Interior Designs by Jimmie Chinn, and went on to represent Wales in the UK final in Northern Ireland. And in 2007 picked up the Best Actress Award.
